When you pay online, you think it's simple. In reality, the flow is complex.
  1. User clicks Pay: Request goes to Gateway (PSP).
  2. Gateway (PSP): Forwards to Acquirer.
  3. Acquirer: The Merchant's bank, talks to Card Network.
  4. Card Network: Routes to Issuer Bank for approval.
Why? Card networks are gated. Only the Acquirer opens the door.

The Gateway just paves the road. The real action is Acquirer ↔ Network ↔ Issuer.
